CHALLENGE
In addition to meeting these standards, the system design needed careful evaluation due to its location beneath the truck loading/parking areas, where heavy vehicle traffic would occur. In addition, 2,400 mm (94”) manholes were prematurely installed, which required the retention system to have to be redesigned around the manholes.
SOLUTION
After the manholes were installed early, Advanced Drainage Systems representatives assisted quickly with on-site design modifications. For this reason, ADS was able to secure the project, and 592 StormTech MC-3500 Chambers were utilized.
ADS was able to revise the StormTech system around the large manholes and to provide technical support on the system. ADS also worked closely with the owner and engineer to solve the inlet and outlet design of the system. While the captured stormwater does infiltrate into the ground, it is also released slowly into Mississauga’s storm sewer system. The slow release is necessitated so the storm sewer system is not overwhelmed.
The chamber system also utilized five StormTech Isolator® Row Pluses, which provide enhanced suspended solids and pollutant removal. Being able to provide an Isolator Row Plus at every inlet was key to StormTech chambers being used on the project.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS
StormTech chambers are designed to save valuable land, reduce flooding risks and protect water resources. The chambers provide a durable structural system and are designed in accordance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design specification for HS-20 live loads. StormTech chambers are available in a variety of sizes to meet any project need and are injection molded for uniform wall thickness. Isolator Row Plus is designed to capture stormwater’s “First Flush” and provides for settling and filtration of sediment and other contaminants. The inlet provides a Flared End Ramp (Flamp) to provide a smooth transition from the pipe invert to the geotextile bottom. The ADS Plus geotextile is able to capture the sediment and other contaminants, while maintaining high-flow rates and exceptional durability.
