Like many municipalities, the City of Fredericton has been experiencing population growth. As the population increased, the demand on municipal utilities grew as well, creating the need for a new sanitary trunk sewer to provide additional capacity to support current and future development.

Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) conducted an in-depth site plan review to confirm that SaniTite HP was suitable product for the project. Once the review was complete, ADS representatives gave multiple presentations to the City of Fredericton and CBCL Limited, the project engineer, outlining the benefits using polypropylene pipe.

After evaluating SaniTite HP and its performance advantages, the city directed CBCL Limited to design and specify SaniTite HP for the sanitary trunk sewer. Nearly 160 m (525’) of 750 mm and 900 mm (30” and 36”) SaniTite HP pipe was installed in green spaces and beneath roadways as part of the new sewer.

The city selected SaniTite HP due to its superior joint integrity compared to traditional materials, 100-year service life, faster installation, and leak-resistant dual-gasket, inline bell-and-spigot design. Following installation, the pipeline underwent stringent pressure testing to confirm system integrity.

Philson Ltd., the project’s contractor, had previous experience with ADS products and was pleased with the installation process. Philson cited the pipe’s lightweight design, high stiffness, and rigidity as key factors contributing to the quick and efficient installation.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS

SaniTite HP couples advanced polypropylene resin technology with a proven 300-750 mm (12”-30”) dual wall and 750-1500 mm ( 30”-60”) triple wall profile design for superior performance and durability. SaniTite HP meets and exceeds typical standards for pipe stiffness and joint integrity. The bell and spigot joining system provides an added factor of safety for design engineers by including polymer-reinforced bells and double gasket spigots on every stick of pipe. The polypropylene pipe is an inert material that is chemically resistant to hydrogen sulfide gas and sulfuric acid concentrations typical of sanitary sewers.
